We love neuroscience
Hi, thanks for visiting our new website!
I've been helping people harness the power of music and sound for over 25 years now. I first stumbled upon these neuroscience discoveries while studying psychology and working as a tennis coach. It had never occurred to me that music and sound have the potential to elicit such powerful effects on the brain.
After graduating as a sport and exercise scientist I continued this now lifelong fascination with the neural effects of music and sound, showing elite athletes and private sector clients how to use these principles to influence mood, decisions and performance.
I am an academic and a practitioner. A lifelong learner. My research over the decades has from many angles examined the effects of music and sound on human behaviour.
My clients have crossed many sectors and ranged from elite sport to the Mayor of London. This is because the principles I use relate to the way human brains work. It doesn't matter what sector these human brains are in, or whether they are customers or employees or young or old. The brain responds to environmental stimuli in particular ways. I show clients how to apply this knowledge to their work.
After 25 years in this field it amazes me that these music neuroscience principles aren't yet embedded as standard practice across business, healthcare, education etc. We know that music and sound have been at the heart of human experience for tens of thousands of years. The results can be significant. Our ability to appreciate music and sound is a unique part of being human. So I'm excited to have partnered up with the fabulous Simon Long to help spread this knowledge and make a difference.
In the words of ABBA "who can live without it, I ask in all honesty, what would life be, without a song or a dance what are we?"

Hi, great to meet you!
Connecting people with experiences via human chemistry and moments that spark has been a hallmark of my working years, as well as my personal life. 3 decades spent learning my trade in the UK and overseas with consumer goods companies, retailers, media companies, sport, research and the charity sector have fused into an irrefutable realisation that we barely scratch the surface of understanding what our brains are capable of. Working with heads of state, CEOs, entrepreneurs and multi-functional teams, I’ve come to appreciate how empowering it is to listen, learn and engage.
I’ve been lucky enough to work with some of the brightest brains in academia, big business, sport, politics and content creation. However, I’ve learnt that there is a huge difference between being “brainy” and being “brain alert”. By “brain alert” I’m referring to the ability to not only understand how our extraordinary cerebral upstairs units work, but how to correlate that understanding with the applied neuroscience of unlocking the best performing individual within us and those we interact with.
By teaming up with the inimitable Dr Rock (aka Dr Julia Jones) I am able to combine my practical, hands-on experience of building brands, businesses and people, with Julia’s forensic understanding of what makes us tick and how to leverage that knowledge to influence positively how we react to the people, places and experiences around us. In doing this, via the little known alchemy of sound and multi-sensory stimulus, we work with leaders and organisations, brands and businesses, people and places to amplify what it means to be at the top of your game.
No one ever expressed this more powerfully then the Bard himself who wrote 400 years ago that “Music can minister to minds diseased, pluck from the memory a rooted sorrow, raze out the written troubles of the brain, and with its sweet oblivious antidote, cleanse the full bosom of all perilous stuff that weighs upon the heart”. - Shakespeare, William (1564-1616)
